Sneak Peek {Adelaide Wedding Photographer}

Tom and Leonie’s wedding is approaching fast – at the gorgeous location of Partridge House they will will be married.

We met at the wedding location late yesterday afternoon to have a chat and take a few shots.  As I waited for them to arrive I sat on the lawn in the afternoon sun listening to the sound of kids laughing and playing, people chatting and birds singing. It was just beautiful.

These two are too cute together. Oh, and how gorgeous is Leonie!  I can not wait to see her in her wedding dress.

I snapped this shot as they were walking to their car… they had no idea I was taking a photo….. they are just so in love…..

Kate and I are very much looking forward to seeing you both all spunked up.

Sneak peek {Adelaide Wedding Photographer}

What can I say? What better way to start off the wedding season than with a sensational wedding by the beach!? ….

This would have to have been one of the most fun, relaxed and beautiful weddings Merryn and I have ever shot.

You might remember Scott & Madonna’s engagement sessions HERE. Such a gorgeous couple, totally in love, and superbly suited. Scott & Madonna got married on the lawn in front of the Grange Hotel, with a slight breeze blowing and not a cloud in the sky. One of those days where the shade is a little too cool, but when you step into the sun, it is like warming yourself in front of an open fire …. just a perfect, perfect day!

Merryn and I were both in tears when Scott surprised Madonna with a full choir waiting for their arrival at the Hotel … they burst into song with “All You Need is Love” …

Here are just a few of my favorites from the day … I will update with more shortly to tell a bit more of the story from their day …

Thank you Scott & Madonna for allowing us to share your special day with you and your friends and family. Can’t wait to show you the ‘photo booth’ images! What a crack up! Enjoy your honeymoon.

Sneak Peek {Adelaide Newborn Photographer}

You might remember this gorgeous maternity photography session from a few months ago.

Well their little newborn baby girl arrived, safe and sound, on her due date nonetheless, and boy is she a feisty one! … This little one had the strongest neck and amazing head control for a newborn of only 8 days! And was determined to stay awake, despite having been awake half the night! (such are the joys of newborn babies) …

But this little family was a delight to photograph … even dad braved the tattoo parlor the day before, and we got some super cool shots of baby Imogen along side …

Here is just a taste …

Congratulations! Merryn’s a full accredited member of AIPP (Adelaide Photographer)

There are a few professional bodies who support the photographic industry. The Australian Institute of Professional Photography is one of the best known associations. The AIPP supports members in achieving excellence and promotes the profession of photography. So, in essence, you can be sure that a photographer who is a member of the AIPP upholds strong ethics, professionalism and provides superior quality work. And I’m sure that anyone who has seen Merryn’s work would say she certainly encompasses these traits.

It’s not the kind of group you just pay your money and suddenly you’re a member. There is a full portfolio assessment which, in Merryn’s case, was assessed by Masters of Photography and critiqued. It is quite  a process, but I am super, super proud to announce that Merryn is now a fully accredited member of the AIPP! Congratulations darl! ….

It also gives Merryn the right to use their logo, so here goes!

Sneak Peek {Adelaide Child Photographer}

I photographed little ‘A’ at only a few months of age. Now she is all grown up. I love this about my job. The opportunity to share the growth of families – the amazing transition from newborn to baby, baby to toddler. It was truly beautiful to see this family having fun in their new home in the lovely town of Macclesfield on the Fleurieu Peninsula.  An enchanted garden, perfect for exploring – I can see some fun birthday parties happening here!

Thanks for a great afternoon – ‘A’ is even more gorgeous than last time we met… oh that cheeky lil smile! I even got the sweetest little kiss as I left.

Homebirth. {Adelaide Baby Photographer}

I met this serene family well over a year ago. I was called to their home for an ACOCP session with your newborn baby boy, Cody. His story can be found here.

A few months ago, Merryn and I were exhibiting at the Beautiful Birth Festival here in Adelaide. Emily, Shane and Cody were there as well, and to my delight they told me they were pregnant with their fifth baby – a little girl! And I was completely blown away when they asked me if I would photograph their birth.

“Of course!” I said … with my adrenalin rushing, heart pounding, and suddenly fearful … how can I do a birth justice with my camera?. What if I don’t get it right? What if I miss it?  …. gosh … I thought weddings were stressful! lol …

So I’ve had batteries on charge, empty CF cards on standby, and my case packed for the last month – waiting for the call.

7 days post dates, the call came. Well, actually via text message “Hi Kate, Emily has finally gone into labour. She thinks if you were here by around 11ish or whenever you can. Thanks Shane” ….

So I finish dropping my daughter at school, head home, grab my camera case and head out the door. The hour long drive is a blur … wondering if Emily’s labour is progressing fast or slow, will I get there and the baby be born already!? …

I arrived at 10.50 am … Em was pacing the kitchen floor with wheatbag held on tum. Bella, Heath and Finn were having an iceblock, and soon grandma arrived and they all got milo too. Shane was testing the birth pool (which had been set up for weeks) to see if it was heating up. Nope. Off to get a plastic cover to see if that would help. Eventually we heated water on the stove, but alas, the pool was never used.

Grandma took the kids to the playground, all the while Cody is sound asleep.

I took the opportunity to look at all the beautiful things Em and Shane have in their home. A bowl of stone eggs, one representing each member of the family … a painting of Em on the wall … photos … tokens of adventures and  memories and snapshots in time ….

I won’t ‘talk’ any more. Instead, I give you their story. In pictures.

DISCLAIMER: This is a birth. If you are offended by images of a woman birthing, please do not press play.

The kind, gentle and serene way Shane and Em birthed their baby girl, is a gift I will have with me always. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Chalking up 13 years {Adelaide Portrait Photographer}

When I fell in love with photography in High School I recall insisting to my Photography teacher that I would never take photos of people.  Today it is these photographs that I cherish the most. The photographs that speak without needing words with them, the photographs that capture the true essence of a relationship between two people. More than a portrait to hang on the wall, but a moment to be held onto.

‘D’ and ‘J’ are very close to my heart for reasons that only those people closest to me truly understand.  ’J’ was my angel at the exact moment I needed one so desperately she appeared in my life, and I knew the moment I heard her speak that everything was going to be okay. And it was.

13 years ago this totally gorgeous, incredibly in love couple tied the knot. After receiving the small proofs of their wedding photos, their photographer disappeared and they were never able to get any more.  So today we spent the afternoon in a lovely little town called Strathalbyn on the Fleurieu Peninsula shooting their relationship.

Married for 13 years and these two are still so smitten with eachother it is just absolutely adorable. I wanted to jump in and cuddle them both!  A few weeks ago ‘D’ had ‘J’s wedding and engagement rings melted down to create her Eternity ring, the inspiration for them booking this photoshoot.  The symbol of their eternal love for eachother and I have a feeling the beginning of a new journey…..

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. You guys are SO much fun to be around.

Happy Birthday

Merryn …

You’ve held my hand through the darkest of darks. You’ve cried with me, and laughed with me. You’ve shared my joyful, and my sorrowful. You have wisdom well beyond your years. You give all of yourself, always and without hesitation. And without you I would not be the person I am today. Thank you.

You are inspirational, more than you would ever imagine. I am honored to share this life time with you as my closest friend. I couldn’t have wished for a better ’sister’. *mwah*

Happy Birthday babe.
